COVID-19 information

We are working hard to support our passengers and provide helpful safety guidelines to follow whilst travelling. If you are planning a journey and are unsure of what part you can play to keep yourself and others safe then, you are in the right place.

Safe and sound advice

Our simple “Safe and sound advice” suggestions clearly set out considerations and measures that we can all take before, during and after travelling. We ask that you follow them and in doing so, you will join us in making a positive difference. It falls on each of us to take personal responsibility and support one another by following these guidelines and remembering how our actions can impact upon other passengers as well as (y)our wider community.

Take the credit

Load credit online and use a Smartcard when travelling. By skipping the queues and reducing contact on entry you are making a difference (and saving yourself time and money!)

Keeping on track

Our cleaning teams are working around the clock to keep our network safe and comfortable (and shiny). Please join them by following our COVID-19 safety guidelines.

Let’s stick together (whilst staying apart!)

Step up and help one another by remembering to wear a mask, being distance aware and washing your hands. It’s a team effort across the city and together we can make a positive difference.

Show understanding

There are occasions where certain passengers may be exempt from wearing a face covering. In this case, we kindly ask you to respect this and steer away from judgement and confrontation as this can cause unnecessary embarrassment and distress.

The same but different

  • Increased our on-board cleaning regime
  • Focused and given priority to the most effective cleaning methods to stop the spread of Covid#19
  • Enhanced housekeeping and facilities staff to concentrate on passenger touchpoint cleaning such as ticket machines and barriers
  • Trained staff on our commitment to delivering a clean and safe environment for all, specific to stopping the spread of Covid#19
  • Installed two hand sanitiser points in all stations and keep them full and operational (if you come across any that you think may need to be topped up out with their regular schedule then please inform a member of staff immediately)
  • Whilst we do not guarantee physical distancing on board, we strongly encourage passengers to make sensible choices and practice this where possible. To make this easier for passengers we recommend that you do not board a train unless you feel that it is safe to do so
  • Staff have been issued with face coverings for their use when out in the station or on the trains carrying out mandatory security checks. They are not required to wear a face-covering when working in the ticket office or a driver’s cab when they are physically separated from passengers.

While we do all it can to ensure a safe journey for passengers, passengers do travel at their own risk and must make their own assessment if it is safe to board a train or a bus which may be running close to maximum capacity.

We are aware that a number of bus stops within the SPT area are not displaying accurate timetables at present. Under current guidelines from the Office of the Traffic Commissioner, bus services are subject to short notice changes and therefore it has been impracticable to keep all paper based roadside information up-to-date. Please be assured that we are working with operators to address this and please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused. Our Real-Time Passenger Information displays are not affected in the same way, and are showing accurate information across Strathclyde.
We advise all passengers to check with Traveline Scotland or with the respective bus operator before travelling.
