Glasgow’s Subway will not operate on Sunday 15 November and Sunday 22 November to allow for important testing work as part of the ongoing Subway modernisation programme.
The closures will enable engineers and operational teams to carry out critical testing and validation of key systems across the network in a live railway environment. The work will help ensure systems continue to operate safely and reliably and allow teams to test a range of operational scenarios.
The closures will also support the continued rollout of Platform Screen Doors (PSDs), which have already been installed at a number of stations. Installation work will continue across the network as part of the wider modernisation programme.
Passengers should also be aware that planned M8 motorway closures will be in place until 1pm on both Sundays 15 and Sunday 22 which may lead to increased traffic and delays on surrounding roads. Please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey where necessary.
SPT Director of Transport Operations Richard Robinson said:
"The work taking place during these Sunday closures will allow us to carry out critical testing and validation of key systems that support the operation of the modernised Subway.
"Over recent years, substantial work has taken place behind the scenes to upgrade key infrastructure across the network. We have now reached the stage where we need to carry out extensive final testing to ensure the new signalling and communications systems operate safely, reliably and as intended.
"As we near the end of the modernisation programme, this work will allow us to replicate a wide range of operational scenarios and give our teams confidence that the systems and infrastructure supporting the Subway are performing safely and reliably for our customers.
"We appreciate the patience of our passengers while this work takes place. Passenger safety and the smooth operation of the Subway remain our top priorities, and these closures will help ensure both as we complete this important stage of testing."
